History of ICONz ®
Development of ICONz ® began in 2005 in response to Dr. Russ Johnson’s work with individuals with ASD and their families. Despite their best efforts to find and provide effective treatments, these clients were dissatisfied and frustrated at the interventions available to them. This remains especially true for adolescents and adults.
While the difficulties Dr. Johnson’s clients described arose in different contexts and settings, there were striking similarities in the nature of the problems they described. Focusing on the similarities in client histories, led to the formulation and design of the images that became the ICONz ®.
Later, the ICONz ® Curricula for middle and high school students and young adults were developed. The content-free feature of the ICONz ® images has helped individuals whose circumstances differ, but whose “stories” are surprisingly similar in essential ways.
At ICONz ® Associates, LLC, we are committed to better identification and understanding of the treatment components of the ICONz ® Program. We believe that learning to identify the components that appear to be “active ingredients” as reflected in our positive outcome measures will help us refine our understanding of how the ICONz ® help our clients. Implementing the ICONz ® Program in a variety of settings and learning more about these active ingredients through systematic research, has and will help us improve the lives of our clients and their families.
The ICONz® Curriculum and Training is currently only available through our Certified ICONz ProvidersTM.
